40-Hour Basic Hazardous Waste Worker (Hazwoper)

OSHA requires this course for workers on hazardous waste sites. The course includes classroom learning and realistic hands-on activities. Workers practice remediation and decontamination activities while wearing the proper respirator and protective clothing. Upon successful completion of this course, each worker receives a "40-Hour Card" (plastic card) that certifies the worker to do hazardous waste work for 12 months, at which time OSHA requires the worker to take a Refresher Course.
Student Requirements
- Attendees of the 40 HR Hazwoper class must have one of the following in order to complete the class and receive certification:
- Current DOT Physical card or
- Dr.'s note stating attendee is physically fit enough to take a 40 HR Hazwoper class or
- Medical clearance dated within 60 days of the class (such as a pre-employment physical)
